The CDC is one of the major operating components of the Department of Health and Human Services. CDC′s mission is to collaborate to create the expertise, information, and tools that people and communities need to protect their health – through health promotion, prevention of disease, injury and disability, and preparedness for new health threats.

 

THE COLLABORATIVE ON HEALTH AND THE ENVIRONMENT (CHE)

www.healthandenvironment.org/ CHE is an international partnership of expert environmental health scientist, health professionals and the public that consilidate the latest information on topics linking public and environmental health. Peer revieed scientists participate in writing white papers and also in monthly conference calls to present information about a topic such as hormone disruption or cell phone EMF in clear easy to understand language. They are an important bridge beteen scientist and the public. CHE is active in 48 states and 45 countries.

CONFERENCE CALLS: To access the monthly conference calls which are 1 hour in length and extremely informative and relevant, go to "News and Events" and click on "Partnership Calls."

WORKING GROUPS: You may also join a working group to participate in learning the latest science on topics such as Asthma, Breast cancer, Electromagnetic fields, Neurodegenerative diseases.

 

HEALTH CARE WITHOUT HARM

noharm.org/ Health Care Without Harm is an international coalition of hospitals, healthcare systems, physicians, environmental and community groups who share a vision of a health care sector that does no harm but instead promotes the health of people and the environment. They work to help implement ecologically sound practices instead of those that pollute the environment contributing to disease. Their website contains information on topics such as PVC and phthalates, flame retardants, green purchasing, waste management, climate and health. They also co-sponsor meetings such as the annual CleanMed Conference bringing together healthcare stakeholders and businesses that promote safer products for hospitals and clinics.

Global Health Initiative is producing an ecological foot print for hospitals to follow. They are a collaborative working group promoting corporate responsibility and are encouraging hospitals including smaller hospitals to join in the effort.
